In order to configure Credit Usage you must enter the configuration panel using: Menu → Preferences.
Immediately after accessing Menu → Preferences, you will be presented with this screen. By default, your plan name is "Unnamed Plan"; and in the future multiple plans may be supported. To configure the plan rates and inclusions, we enter the plan configuration panel by tapping on "Unnamed Plan". The other configuration panels under "Application" will be discussed in the Advanced Configuration topic. |
After tapping on your plan name ("Unnamed Plan" by default), you will be presented with the plan configuration panel. In this panel you can clearly change the name of the plan; and this will change the name of the plan as it appears in the previous panel. Throughout the Credit Usage control panels there are some focus issues due to limitations of Android's ListView adapter; and so it may take a few goes to change this name (and other text fields). Most of the plan settings, however, are configured in two more nested configuration panels corresponding to the "Service Information" and "Base Rates" entries seen to the left. These two configuration panels are discussed in the remaining two panels below. The remaining section, "Filters", which pertains to Plan inclusions and exemptions, will be dealt with in the Filters Configuration topic. |
In the "Service Configuration" panel the basic properties of the plan are configured. The Monthly charge field is the amount per month that you pay, in real money, for the subscription to your plan. The Included credit field is the amount of "virtual money" which is included in your plan. Some companies may call this your "cap". If you have multiple caps, this can usually be taken into account using Filters. The Reset Day field specifies the day of the month that Credit Usage is to consider the plan usage to be reset. Presently, Credit Usage does not support credit rolling over. |
The "Base Rates" configuration panel is where most of the basic service rates are specified. If these values are not *precisely* the values described by your telecom provider, Credit Usage will be unable to give an accurate estimate of your credit usage. Except as described in the Filters topic; all phone usage will be subtracted at these rates from your specified monthly cap. By and large, configuring these rates ought to be straight forward; but there are a few things to note. Under the Voice Rates section; the outgoing and incoming call rates are specified as a monetary value per unit time. The time specified (as a number of seconds) will also act as the rounding unit of call times (call times are always rounded up to the nearest rounding unit). For example; if the call rates are configured as $0.4 per 30 seconds, and I make a call of 2 minutes and 23 seconds; Credit Usage will charge you for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, or $2.00. The Flagfall field corresponds to the flat one-time connection cost per call. So with a flag fall of $0.35, in the above example; the total call would be charged as $2.35. In countries like Australia, only outgoing calls are charged, and so one can leave the incoming values as $0. SMS and MMS rate specification is pretty self-explanatory. Just put the values specified by your provider here. Data Rates ought to be fairly straightforward to complete too. Note that the rounding described for voice calls is NOT applied here; and so $0.002 / 10 KB is entirely equivalent to $2 / 10000 KB. |
